BROUGH FARMERS' MARKET

OUR LAST (June) MARKET
The last Farmers’ Market was on Saturday June 19th. After visiting Orton last month when they claimed their 100th market, we decided to calculate ours to see how soon it would be. The March market was our 8th birthday, which meant that up to then there had been 96 markets ( we have not missed a third Saturday since we started), and four after that was March, April, May, JUNE. So June would be our 100th! We put it on our local adverts, and as you may have seen mentioned it in our Next Market page for June.
As a special, we had prepared some special tokens for use at our stalls to be given to lucky market visitors. Not surprisingly we had decided (but NOT publicised) that the 100th and 200th visitor would receive the envelope containing the tokens. So visitor 100 was presented with an envelope with three £5 tokens, and very kindly returned one to us as a raffle prize. The others they used, and took their goods back to Chorley, from which they were visiting the area. The 200th visitor also received and used her tokens, but we were rather busy at the time and failed to get her details.
The weather was once again fine, but we still only had 243 visitors -- maybe the World Cup took them away.
Our vegetable stall was operated by the usual stallholder's son since his father was convalescing from an operation. The son is the one who now runs the business, but his parents will never retire while they still have their health, but they say they like coming to Brough, and we certainly like having them here, so wish him a good recovery.
We have had so many stalls as regulars at the market that we have been unable to squeeze space for our local potter with his range of attractive tableware and cookware, until this month when our venison stall because of unexpected work pressures was unable to come. So this month Bob was able to take her space. This all happened at such short notice that I never even thought of revising the Next Market page for June! The potter and his wife are long-time friends who we discovered when we still visitors to the area, and probably bought more of their output then than we have since we moved her nearly eleven years ago! As well as looking good, his ceramics are very strong and therefore last well.
Our fudge stall was also absent but the remainder of our stalls were here as usual.
Between that market and the July one is our holiday break, which is why, now I am back that I am typing this rather longer after a market than it should be!
